Marine Generator Repair and Supply in Vietnam
Published
SVC electricians and mechanics go on board in Vietnam to find the generator fault, repair the agreed electrical or mechanical items and test the set after repair. We also supply replacement generators, alternators and spare parts against the vessel’s technical requirements.
Work packages
- Onboard fault finding
- Alternator repair and rewinding
- AVR, diodes and bearings
- Replacement sets and spare parts
- Post-repair checks and job records

01
Find the generator fault before choosing the repair
A generator trip, unstable voltage or loss of crane power can interrupt cargo work and the vessel’s port schedule. Send the symptoms, alarm history and photographs first. SVC examines the nameplate, available drawings and reported condition to define the inspection and the parts needed for attendance.
Our electricians check the alternator, AVR, diodes, terminals, wiring and insulation condition within the agreed scope. Our mechanics examine reported bearing noise, vibration, coupling or engine-side defects. We identify the repair items before proposing a replacement set. Equipment isolation, safe access and the vessel’s working permissions are agreed before work starts.
- No output or unstable voltage
- Repeated trips when a load is applied
- Overheating, abnormal noise or vibration
- Damaged winding, terminals or visible insulation defects
02
Alternator repair, rewinding and component renewal
SVC’s repair team dismantles the agreed components, examines the damage and carries out the commissioned repair. The scope can include cleaning and drying, alternator rewinding, bearing renewal, diode and mounting-assembly renewal, AVR replacement, terminal repairs and reassembly.
Access, component weight and the available repair window determine which work can be completed on board and which items need workshop work. We define removal, lifting, repair, return and reinstallation in the job scope. We confirm the repair method against the inspected component and the available port window.
03
Marine generator supply and spare parts
SVC supplies marine diesel generator sets, alternators and replacement components against the stated equipment particulars. For a 500 kVA, 600 kVA or other specified set, send the nameplate, required duty and installation arrangement with the enquiry. Used, reconditioned and replacement units are quoted subject to the requested condition and availability.
We compare the required output, voltage, frequency, phase, speed, mounting, coupling, cooling and available space before putting a unit forward. State any class or documentation requirement in the requisition; an available unit still needs to match the vessel’s installation.
Parts enquiries can include AVR units, diodes, bearings, sensors, terminal components, insulation materials and electrical consumables. Identify the maker, model and part reference where available so the quotation names the actual proposed part.
04
Generator faults affecting deck crane operation
When a dedicated generator trips or delivers unstable power during crane work, send the crane duty and the conditions at the time of the fault. SVC checks the appointed generator output, wiring, control panel and reported load condition as part of the repair enquiry.
The remedy may be a component repair, alternator work or a suitable replacement generator. We compare the required crane-power duty with the set’s stated capacity and installation before proposing supply.
05
Test the repaired set and record the result
Our team checks the repaired items before handover. The agreed tests may include insulation resistance, no-load running, voltage and frequency, bearing noise, temperature observation and load testing where the vessel’s arrangements and working window permit.
SVC records the work completed, parts renewed, photographs and test results. The completion summary identifies outstanding defects or tests that could not be performed. The chief engineer receives the repair record and the remaining items for the vessel’s decision.
06
Generator repair during a Vietnam port call
Give the terminal or anchorage as well as the port name, ETA, ETD and the hours available for inspection or repair. Boarding access, isolation, lifting arrangements, materials and personnel availability determine the attendance plan.
Northern calls include Hai Phong, Hon Gai, Cam Pha and Cai Lan. Central calls include Nghi Son, Cua Lo, Vung Ang, Son Duong, Hon La, Chan May, Da Nang, Dung Quat and Quy Nhon. Southern enquiries include Nha Trang, Vinh Tan, Vung Tau, Phu My, Cai Mep and the Ho Chi Minh City area.
Use the Vietnam repair port directory to identify the working location. For the wider machinery and electrical scope, see afloat ship repair in Vietnam.
07
Send the generator defect and nameplate photos
Email the generator requirement to [email protected]. State whether the enquiry is for a failed set, alternator repair, spare parts or replacement supply. Nameplate and damage photographs let our team assess the equipment before attendance.
- Port, berth or anchorage; ETA / ETD and available work window
- Maker, model, serial or part reference where needed
- Rated kVA / kW, voltage, frequency and RPM
- Symptoms, alarms, defect history and existing test readings
- Nameplate, damaged component photos and any service report
- Access, isolation and lifting arrangements for the proposed work
08
Marine generator repair enquiries
Can the repair be completed during a port stay?
Onboard fault finding and selected repairs can be planned around the port call when safe access, isolation, required parts and sufficient time are available. Larger alternator work may require removal and workshop repair; SVC defines that scope before attendance.
Does SVC repair alternators as well as supply generators?
Our electrical repair scope includes alternator inspection, rewinding, bearings, diodes, AVR and terminal work. Replacement sets and spares are quoted separately against the equipment particulars and requested condition.
What helps SVC assess a voltage or trip fault?
Send the nameplate, symptoms, alarms, the load or crane operation at the time of the fault, available test readings and clear photographs. The repair enquiry should also state the port and work window.
