Voyage TCE Calculator

A detailed voyage estimate built from distances and speeds. It separates ECA legs, prices VLSFO, ULSFO and MGO by operating mode, adds port, canal and insurance costs, and shows the TCE the voyage earns at each freight rate.

How the voyage is calculated

  1. Port time: quantity divided by the loading or discharge rate gives the working days; the extra days at each port are added.
  2. Sailing time: each distance divided by the speed for that leg and by 24. Ballast legs use the ballast speed and laden legs the laden speed. Waiting at the canal or passing point is added to the voyage.
  3. ECA time: each ECA distance divided by its ECA speed and by 24. Normal ballast and normal laden time are the leg sailing days less the ECA days.
  4. Port working time is split by whether the ship's cranes are used at each port. Idle time is the extra port days plus the canal waiting.
  5. Consumption: the days in each operating mode times the daily VLSFO, ULSFO and MGO figures, summed by fuel and priced at the bunker prices.
  6. Voyage cost: bunker cost plus PDA at both ports, AWRP, strait or canal dues, P&I survey and other costs.
  7. TCE: freight times quantity, less commission and voyage cost, divided by the total voyage duration. Breakeven freight is the freight at which the TCE is zero.

Dry bulk freight calculator: freight needed for each daily hire

Frequently asked questions

What is TCE?

Time charter equivalent: the voyage result per day after voyage costs and commission, so a voyage offer can be compared with a daily hire.

How is this different from the dry bulk freight calculator?

The dry bulk freight calculator starts from sea days and gives the freight needed for each daily hire. This calculator starts from distances and speeds, separates ECA legs and operating modes, and gives the TCE for each freight rate.

How do I enter ECA legs?

Enter the total ECA distance in ballast and laden. It is taken out of the normal sailing time and charged at the ECA speed and consumption, usually MGO.

Is the calculator free to use?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and nothing you enter is sent or stored.

Have a dry bulk cargo to move?

Send the cargo type, quantity, load and discharge ports and laycan to SVC Marine to discuss freight and suitable tonnage.
