Marine boiler repair in Son Duong, Vietnam

Published

SVC Marine repairs marine boilers and expansion joints for vessels calling Son Duong. Send the leak location, boiler reference and available work window so our repair team can identify the damaged section and prepare the work. We keep connection renewal, tube work and any workshop fabrication distinct, with the agreed inspections and handover records attached to the repair scope.

01

Locate the leak and identify the repair

A leak around a boiler can involve a tube, a steam or water connection, or a joint in the exhaust arrangement. Describe what the vessel has observed: escaping steam or water, exhaust leakage, abnormal water loss, pressure changes or a damaged connection. Give the position on the drawing and photographs of the affected area and surrounding access. The location of a stain or alarm is an inspection input; the repair decision follows examination of the actual component.

SVC inspects the agreed section with the chief engineer and identifies the work that can be performed in the available window. A joint replacement needs component and connection details. A suspected tube defect needs the boiler and tube arrangement, the affected positions and access inside the equipment. Keep the proposed repair tied to those findings so parts prepared for one fault are not mistaken for the solution to another.

02

Measure the expansion joint before fabrication

The photograph shows an expansion joint removed for repair, with its bellows and flanged ends visible. For a similar connection enquiry, send the equipment drawing, existing joint reference, connection dimensions and photographs showing how the component is installed. Identify the connected system and its service conditions; a replacement must suit that arrangement as well as fit the available space.

SVC measures the appointed component and checks the flange and mating-connection details before preparing the repair or replacement. The worklist identifies material and component references, fabrication or part supply, flange preparation, removal, fitting and the inspection points. Clarify which dimensions come from the maker's drawing and which are measured aboard. A joint of similar diameter may not have the required movement or service rating.

Our team dismantles and handles the selected joint under the agreed access and lifting plan. Where workshop examination or fabrication is needed, the component remains identifiable through receipt, work and return to the vessel. Fitting includes the appointed positioning, alignment, bolting and sealing tasks. The boiler and expansion-joint service explains the wider component work; the actual quotation identifies which items apply to this connection.

03

Keep boiler tube work a separate branch

For tube-related leakage, send the boiler maker, model, tube dimensions, affected locations and photographs of the accessible tube area. SVC identifies the damaged section and prepares the selected materials and fitting or welding work. The repair method depends on the equipment condition, access and technical requirements. A joint photograph is not a tube drawing or a basis for selecting plugs.

A temporary tube repair and permanent renewal have different worklists. The temporary boiler tube repair record describes stopper fabrication and appointed fitting and welding on an earlier job. The Cam Pha tube-plugging case is a separate completed attendance with its own quantity and result. Neither record supplies a plug count, operating limit or acceptance result for a new Son Duong enquiry.

SVC can set out temporary leak-control work and the remaining permanent repair as separate items where the inspected condition permits. Tube renewal, economizer work, steam-line repair or other pressure-part work needs its own component references, materials and inspection requirements. The chief engineer, superintendent and any required surveyor review the selected method and the boiler's return-to-service conditions for the actual vessel.

04

Prepare shutdown, access and the return window

Before dismantling or welding, the vessel's responsible officers confirm the agreed shutdown, isolation, cooling, pressure condition and safe access. SVC needs the affected equipment boundary, nearby operations, handling route and hot-work arrangements clear before proceeding. State when the boiler or connected equipment can be taken out of service and what other machinery or cargo activity limits that window.

Onboard work, taking a component ashore, workshop repair and refitting are separate stages to plan. Include the landing and return arrangements, lifting restrictions and the point at which the component must be back aboard. If the port window allows examination only, the first worklist can record the defect, dimensions and parts required for the next repair. The quotation should identify that boundary before attendance.

05

Record the inspection and completed checks

The work record identifies the component or tube section examined, parts fabricated or supplied, fitting and welding performed, and the inspections actually completed. The maker's requirements, repair method and agreed technical acceptance determine the checks. Specify any material records, welding or inspection documentation and owner or surveyor witnessing points when defining the work.

Where a leak or pressure-related test is appointed, its method, conditions and acceptance requirements belong in the agreed test plan for that equipment. A photograph of a completed fit is not a test result. SVC records the checks performed and their conditions, together with an unperformed test, remaining defect or permanent repair item. Insulation reinstatement and cleaning of the affected work area can be listed with the completion tasks when included.

These records let the vessel team distinguish the repair completed during the call from the work still required. Keep any operating restriction and next inspection or repair in the handover rather than treating temporary work as the end of the repair programme.

06

Plan the Son Duong receiving position

Send the exact Son Duong berth or anchorage, ETA and ETD, onboard contact and cargo-work restrictions. For a terminal call, identify the receiving point and the permitted personnel, tools and component transfer arrangements. Access, isolation and workshop-return timing are agreed against that call; the port name alone does not define an available repair window.

For subsequent calls at Hon La, Nghi Son or Vissai/Cua Lo, send the new position and machinery window with the same defect record. SVC quotes the inspected joint, tube or pipe task for that receiving point. Wider machinery, electrical and pipe work can be included through the Vietnam ship-repair team with each additional item identified.

07

Questions before a boiler repair

Will replacing the joint solve a boiler tube leak?

The affected section must be identified first. Send the leak position and drawing so SVC can distinguish connection or exhaust-joint work from a boiler tube or other pressure-part defect.

What does SVC need for an expansion-joint quotation?

Send the joint reference, drawing, connection dimensions, service conditions and installed-position photographs. Include access, lifting, removal and return requirements so fabrication and onboard fitting can be quoted together where needed.

Is temporary tube plugging the complete repair?

The selected temporary method and remaining permanent work are recorded separately. The equipment condition and vessel's technical requirements determine the repair and any operating restrictions for each boiler.

Which tests will be in the handover?

Specify the required inspection, leak or pressure-related checks, material or welding records and any witnessing points. SVC records tests actually performed and their conditions, with incomplete checks and remaining work clearly identified.

What should I send for a Son Duong call?

Email the SVC repair team with the berth or anchorage, ETA/ETD, fault photographs, boiler or joint references, drawings, isolation and access conditions, available parts and return window. Mark urgent items so the quotation addresses the immediate repair and the next worklist.
