01

Send a buyer requirement

Describe the intended trade and cargo, vessel type, preferred flag and class, age range, budget, inspection location and delivery timing. Use the capacity that matches the vessel type: TEU for container vessels, passenger capacity for passenger vessels, bollard pull for tugs, cargo volume for gas carriers and DWT where relevant. State which limits are essential and which are preferences.

02

Prepare a seller mandate

Provide vessel particulars, class and survey status, machinery information, condition reports, photographs and delivery position. Identify the seller authority and agreed mandate before arranging sale discussions.

03

Inspection and repair exposure

The inspection scope reviews visible hull, deck, machinery and cargo systems together with document and survey status. Findings inform the repair and drydock plan alongside the commercial discussion. Use the dedicated pre-purchase inspection service for its scope.

04

Delivery and post-purchase work

The agreed scope may include MOA discussion follow-up, closing and delivery checklists, handover attendance, spare parts, drydock planning and repair follow-up. Legal advice, title transfer, escrow and banking matters remain with the relevant professional advisers.

05

Discuss a vessel profile

Browse Our Market and quote the SVC code in your enquiry. Public profiles withhold vessel name and IMO and show indicative rounded particulars. Identity and price are handled through official SVC email after the required company verification and human approval; identity release also follows buyer LOI and owner consent.

Buyer-Side Acquisition · Seller-Side Disposal

Buyer-Side Vessel Acquisition

Many vessel searches fail because the buyer's real requirement is unclear at the beginning. SVC Marine reviews the target vessel profile before time is wasted on unsuitable tonnage, unrealistic price ideas or technically wrong vessels.

Vessel types reviewed include general cargo vessels, bulk carriers, container feeder vessels, multipurpose vessels, geared cargo vessels, tankers subject to project profile, harbour craft and workboats, offshore and specialized marine units, and distressed or repair-related tonnage where relevant.

  • Target vessel type and trading plan
  • DWT / GT / LOA / beam / draft
  • Class and flag preference
  • Machinery maker and fuel consumption
  • Crane / cargo gear / hatch / tank requirement
  • Drydock and survey due position
  • Delivery location, timeline and budget
  • Post-purchase repair and operating plan

Seller-Side Vessel Disposal

For sellers, SVC Marine prepares vessel sale information, screens buyer seriousness, manages enquiry flow, follows inspection requests and keeps the transaction moving toward realistic commercial terms and a workable delivery basis.

SVC Marine screens, reviews, follows and reports on the sale process. SVC Marine does not guarantee buyer funding or transaction closing.

Inspection · Class · Condition

  • Vessel sale profile review
  • Key selling points
  • Buyer qualification and seriousness screening
  • Inspection request follow-up
  • Price idea and negotiation
  • Delivery basis
  • Document and class status preparation
  • Closing and handover follow-up

04

Inspection, Class & Condition Risk Review

The price of a second-hand vessel is not only the asking price. The real acquisition cost depends on class status, drydock due date, steel condition, machinery condition, certificate position, cargo gear, hatch cover, tank condition, spare parts, repair exposure, delivery voyage and trading readiness. Related: Pre-Purchase Vessel Inspection, Drydock Supervision and Ship Repair Services.

Hull & Machinery

Visible hull, deck and accommodation condition; main engine and auxiliary machinery review; steel repair exposure.

Cargo Systems

Cargo hold, hatch cover, crane, deck equipment and tank observation against the intended cargo and trading plan.

Class & Statutory

Class status and survey due items, class recommendations, overdue items, navigation and safety statutory review.

Drydock Position

Drydock and Special Survey position, post-purchase repair budget and the true cost of bringing the vessel to class.

Delivery & Crew

Delivery voyage feasibility, crew requirement, spare parts risk and readiness for the first commercial voyage.

Evidence

Photo evidence, pending-item lists and factual buyer-side reporting to support the price and repair-exposure decision.

MOA, Closing & Delivery Follow-Up

After price and basic terms are agreed, a vessel transaction still requires disciplined follow-up. Many deals fail or become disputed because inspection findings, documents, class status, payment timing, crew handover, port matters or delivery details are not controlled properly.

Closing & Delivery Control

  • MOA discussion follow-up
  • Inspection condition item follow-up
  • Delivery document checklist
  • Deposit and closing timeline follow-up
  • Delivery location and port matter follow-up
  • Crew change and handover planning
  • Bunker, stores and spare parts handover
  • Buyer-side delivery attendance and final close-out

Execution Boundary

SVC Marine follows MOA and closing from a commercial and operational execution perspective: tracking checklists, timelines, documents, class and delivery items, and reporting to the owner or buyer.

Before a mandate is accepted, SVC Marine screens the vessel, the buyer or seller and the declared beneficial owner against applicable sanctions lists, and declines mandates that fail that screening.

SVC Marine does not provide legal advice, escrow service, banking service, title opinion or sanctions legal review. Final legal, banking, title, mortgage, flag and insurance decisions remain with the relevant professional advisers and authorities.

06

Post-Purchase Drydock & Operating Readiness

SVC Marine's strongest advantage is connecting ship sale and purchase with practical vessel execution after delivery. Many second-hand vessels require drydock, class renewal, repair, spare parts, crew change, service teams or technical preparation before they can trade safely and commercially.

At the Table - Negotiation to Closing

SVC Marine attends the transaction table with buyer, seller, broker, bank and legal advisers - driving commercial negotiation, MOA follow-up and closing discipline, while banking and legal steps remain with each party's own advisers.
