SVC Marine
Vessel Sourcing for Commercial Ship Buyers
Published
SVC Marine turns the buyer’s trading requirements into a vessel search. We approach owners and brokers, check availability and seller terms, compare the candidates against the cargo and port limits, and prepare a shortlist for onboard inspection and negotiation.
Work packages
- Buyer’s trade and vessel requirement
- Owners and brokers approached
- Availability and seller terms checked
- Cargo, draft and class screening
- Candidate comparison and shortlist
- Inspection and acquisition planning
01
Start with the trade the ship must perform
Cargo, route and port limits define the search. SVC checks capacity, draft, dimensions, cargo gear or tank arrangement against the intended service, then adds the buyer’s age, class, budget and delivery requirements.
A low asking price is only one part of an acquisition. Survey dates, machinery condition, drydock needs and the cost of taking delivery can change which candidate is worth inspecting.
02
Search the market and check the candidates
Our team approaches owners, authorised sellers and brokers for listed and off-market vessels. We request vessel particulars and available records, check the seller’s price idea and delivery position, and identify the items that need confirmation.
Candidates outside the essential trading or budget limits are removed from the shortlist. For vessels that fit, SVC sets out the available particulars, survey exposure, main technical questions and the proposed next step.
03
A shortlist the buyer can compare
- Vessel type and capacity suited to the cargo
- Draft, dimensions and cargo-handling arrangement
- Build year, machinery and available condition records
- Class, survey dates and drydock position
- Seller’s current price idea and delivery window
- Material unknowns and inspection priorities
04
From the shortlist to the negotiating table
When a candidate is worth inspecting, SVC surveyors go on board and issue a condition report for the buyer. The findings become repair questions, price negotiation points and delivery requirements.
Under the agreed acquisition mandate, SVC negotiates the purchase, reads and counters the MOA clauses, prepares the transaction documents and takes the work through closing and vessel delivery. The buyer approves the vessel and final terms.
05
Define a searchable vessel requirement
- Vessel type, cargo and intended route
- Capacity and essential port limits
- Acceptable build age, class and machinery profile
- Purchase budget and repair tolerance
- Inspection and delivery location and timing
