Air compressor repair in Chan May, Vietnam

Published

If a ship's air compressor runs without building the required pressure, trips on temperature or leaks at a pipe connection during a Chan May call, send SVC Marine the observed fault and the available outage window. Our technicians define the appointed machine, control and pipe work before opening it.

01

Start with the compressor's duty and symptom

Identify whether the machine supplies starting air, service air or another named circuit. Give its maker, model, plate reference and the relevant maker drawing. State when the symptom occurs: at start, during pressure build-up, at cut-out, after unloading or when air is demanded. Send the pressure, temperature, alarm and running-time observations already recorded by the engine team, including which gauge or sensor produced each reading. If no measurement exists, say so rather than assigning a value from an image.

SVC checks the available record and examines the nominated compressor and connected items within the agreed attendance. Low delivery pressure may call for inspection of the machine, its valves or a leaking connection; repeated tripping can put the thermostat, pressure switch, motor or operating condition on a different branch of the worklist. These are inspection possibilities, not a remote diagnosis. The earlier compressor case describes an actual thermostat renewal and onboard operating test; that result belongs to that job and does not prove the cause of a new Chan May fault.

02

Separate the pressure path from the control path

For a pressure-building complaint, record the observed pressure at the nominated point and whether the compressor runs, loads and unloads as expected for that model. SVC can inspect accessible cylinder-head and valve parts, associated seals and pipe connections when the findings and maker instructions call for them. A damaged valve, a leaking joint and an incorrect control response require different parts and handover checks. They should not all be priced as a generic overhaul.

For a trip or unexpected cut-in/cut-out, supply the exact alarm, switch or thermostat reference and the condition when it operates. SVC keeps electrical/control inspection separate from cylinder-head repair, while allowing both to be quoted if evidence warrants it. The existing work record's pressure-switch, head and pipework photographs show different component areas; none of them establishes a fault on an unidentified vessel. A refrigeration compressor has a different duty and system boundary, so a cold-room complaint belongs to a separate refrigeration case.

03

Open and repair only the agreed components

The engine team must identify the affected air circuit, its isolation and depressurization arrangements, and whether another compressor or air source remains available. SVC reviews access, hot surfaces, rotating parts, removal route and any required work permit before the appointed dismantling. The quotation distinguishes onboard inspection, component cleaning or renewal, pipe fitting and any workshop work. Maker-specific torque, pressure limits and test values come from the actual machine documentation, not a universal port guide.

When opened, SVC records the observed condition of the agreed head, valves, switch, thermostat or connection; parts are identified by reference before renewal. The handover ties the repaired item back to the machine and circuit. If the first attendance finds that a different component or larger outage is needed, that additional scope is stated for approval rather than silently included or called complete.

04

Agree the operating check and the record

The proposed check depends on the repaired component and the vessel's safe operating arrangements. Agree who will operate the compressor, which pressure or temperature indications will be observed, whether the switch or unloading action is in scope, and what record the superintendent needs. The completion note should identify parts handled, the readings or function checks actually made, the conditions of those checks and any fault still open. A photograph of an opened compressor is not a pressure-test certificate or proof that every connected air receiver and pipeline has passed inspection.

The machinery guide explains how SVC separates compressor work from boiler and incinerator equipment in a combined vessel worklist. The ship-repair service covers a wider engine-room request; compressor duty and system references should still be listed separately.

05

Confirm the actual Chan May receiving position

Chan May Port's published information distinguishes berths and a transshipment anchorage. Give SVC the vessel's actual berth or anchorage, not only the port name, together with ETA, ETD, cargo-work restrictions, boarding arrangement and the time when the compressor can be isolated. State whether required parts are already aboard and whether a component may need to leave the vessel. SVC checks access and the proposed work window for that position before confirming the attendance and scope. A berth arrangement does not automatically apply to an anchorage transfer.

If the vessel's next call is Da Nang, or a separate Tien Sa or Ky Ha position, send the exact new receiving point and remaining compressor worklist. The equipment references and fault record can travel with the enquiry; local access, permits and return timing must be reviewed again.

06

Questions before a compressor attendance

Does low pressure always mean the cylinder head needs overhaul?

No. Send the machine duty, fault sequence, observed pressure and any leakage or loading information. SVC separates the compressor, valves, controls and connected pipework before proposing the opened components and parts.

Can a trip and an air leak be repaired in one visit?

They can be considered as two appointed tasks if the work window, access, parts and isolation allow it. List the alarm or switch reference and the suspected leaking joint separately so the quotation and handover do not merge them into one unverified cause.

Will SVC repeat the earlier thermostat repair at Chan May?

Only if the new inspection and maker information justify that item. The linked thermostat renewal and onboard test are an earlier SVC record, not a diagnosis, completed job or promise of the same result at Chan May.

Which checks will appear in the completion record?

The agreed scope defines them. SVC records the component work and the relevant observed operating, switch or pressure indications actually checked under the vessel's arrangements, and lists any test or defect left open. Maker instructions, vessel procedures and any applicable class or statutory requirements determine the checks and acceptance.

What should I send for a Chan May quotation?

Send the exact berth or anchorage, ETA/ETD, machine and circuit references, symptom and alarm history, available pressure and temperature readings, photographs or drawings, isolation and alternate-air arrangements, parts on board and the required return window. Email the SVC repair team with this worklist so the reply addresses the actual machine and fault.
