Marine refrigeration repair in Vietnam: provision cold rooms

SVC Marine inspects and repairs vessel meat and vegetable cold-room systems in Vietnam. We identify the fault before agreeing refrigerant handling, evacuation, charging or drier renewal.

01

Meat and vegetable cold rooms on board

A provision room that will not hold its set temperature needs a fault assessment before anyone proposes a refrigerant charge. SVC Marine works on vessel meat and vegetable cold-room refrigeration systems in Vietnam. The enquiry begins with the room temperature, plant condition, alarms and the available work window.

A warm room does not, by itself, prove a leak. Compressor operation, controls, fans, defrost, heat transfer and room use can each affect temperature. Our onboard inspection establishes which parts of the system need attention before we agree the repair scope.

02

Maintenance scope for vessel provision rooms

SVC's provision-room service scope includes oil and refrigerant handling, system evacuation, recharging and drier filter renewal. The actual worklist depends on the plant, the fault found on board and the vessel's available time.

For a new attendance, SVC checks the maker's information and the observed fault, then identifies which tasks and replacement components belong in the agreed worklist. A filter drier, compressor part or control component is not replaced solely because a room is warm.

03

Inspection before opening the circuit

We ask the crew for specified room temperatures, recent trends and alarm history. On board, technicians inspect accessible plant, read equipment labels and review the reported condition. Intrusive tests, refrigerant recovery and circuit opening require the vessel's permission and isolation arrangements.

The inspection separates suspected leakage or restriction from an electrical, control, airflow or defrost fault. Readings are recorded with their operating conditions rather than treated as proof of a defect without diagnosis.

  • Identify the affected room and plant, setpoint and actual temperature, alarm sequence and recent changes.
  • Check the maker, model, component labels and specified refrigerant before choosing parts or handling a charge.
  • Agree safe access, isolation and the time the vessel can release the plant.

04

Refrigerant, oil, evacuation and drier renewal

If the agreed repair requires circuit work, SVC plans refrigerant and oil handling against the equipment specification and applicable site procedure. System cleaning and renewal of cooling components are quoted after inspection identifies the affected circuit or part. Drier renewal depends on the fault, circuit condition and maker's instructions; the replacement must suit the system and refrigerant. Evacuation and charging follow the maker's requirements and the specified refrigerant, with the plant monitored during recommissioning.

R22 is among the refrigerants SVC works with, but it is not a default charge for an unidentified system. We confirm the plant label, service history and permitted refrigerant before quoting materials or charging. We do not apply one vacuum target or charge amount to every vessel.

05

Checks and work record after the agreed repair

The scope can include checking the repaired circuit and observing the plant under the available operating conditions. The work record identifies components or connections attended, materials used, refrigerant and oil handled, readings actually taken and any restriction on testing. It distinguishes a completed check from one that could not be performed within the vessel's work window.

If the room needs more running time or another repair to reach its specified temperature after departure, SVC states that in the handover.

06

Port location and work window in Vietnam

For an enquiry at Tien Sa, Van Phong, Cam Ranh or another Vietnam port, send the berth or anchorage, agent contact, ETA and ETD, and the time the plant can be isolated and run for checks. We assess access, parts and time for that attendance rather than assuming the same scope at every port.

Our Tien Sa marine refrigeration guide explains local enquiry details. Ship repair services cover the wider repair scope; a refrigeration quotation still identifies the actual plant and tasks separately.

07

Send the fault and system particulars for a quotation

Email SVC Marine's ship-repair team with the vessel's port and schedule, then provide the details below. We can separate diagnosis, planned circuit work, replacement materials and checks possible within the available time. A quotation follows the evidence and agreed worklist rather than assuming every fault needs a recharge.

  • Room purpose, setpoint, current and recent temperatures, provision loading and when the fault began.
  • Alarms, compressor and fan behaviour, defrost condition, leak or repair history, and clear plant photographs.
  • Maker, model, specified refrigerant, available manual or drawing, and any known spare-part reference.
  • Berth or anchorage, agent contact, ETA and ETD, safe access, isolation window and time for a running check.

Marine refrigeration questions

These answers describe how a new attendance is scoped. Plant condition and the work record determine what can be completed on board.

Does a warm cold room always need more refrigerant?

No. Temperature alone does not identify the fault. SVC checks the plant, controls, airflow, defrost and available readings before proposing a charge or another repair.

Can you recharge R22 or another refrigerant?

The refrigerant must first be identified from the equipment and service record. SVC quotes handling and charging only for the specified, permitted material and agreed procedure; R22 is not the default for an unknown plant.

When is a drier filter replaced?

We assess circuit condition, the fault and the maker's instructions. If renewal is agreed, the replacement must match the system and refrigerant; poor cooling alone does not require a new drier.

What can be checked before the vessel sails?

The work window determines the checks. SVC records the repair and readings actually observed, operating conditions and any outstanding test; an unperformed temperature trial is not reported as passed.

What should we send for a port attendance quotation?

Send room temperatures and alarms, maker and model, specified refrigerant, photographs, repair history, berth or anchorage, agent contact and ETA/ETD. State when the plant can be isolated and run.
