The scheduled crane attendance
The vessel's enquiry concerned its scheduled five-year crane load testing. SVC Marine handled the service correspondence and followed the attendance through to the work-done report and commercial close-out.
For this kind of attendance, the enquiry needs to identify the actual lifting appliances and the required test scope. A deck crane, provision crane and engine-room lifting appliance may have different capacities, access arrangements and documentation requirements.
The work-done report and close-out
After the attendance, SVC Marine forwarded the work-done report and final invoice. The correspondence also covered an additional job invoice and subsequent payment follow-up.
A useful close-out connects the requested work with the attendance record. Test readings, certificate requirements and any additional work should be identified for the particular appliance and agreed scope.
Preparing a crane load-test enquiry
Send the crane maker, model, identification number and safe working load, together with the reason for testing and the previous report or certificate. Identify any repair or equipment change that needs to be considered when defining the attendance.
Provide the port or anchorage, ETA, available working window and onboard access arrangements. Clarify the required test equipment and whether an owner's representative, superintendent or surveyor needs to attend.
