Clarifying hose items in the requisition

The Cam Pha supply correspondence raised questions about hose fittings before sourcing. SVC Marine asked the vessel for photographs of the thread and the connections at both ends, together with the available specification details.

This was a practical procurement question. A hose description or pressure label alone does not identify the complete connection arrangement. The supplier needs to understand how the requested hose connects to the vessel's existing equipment before proposing a replacement.

From the stores enquiry to delivery close-out

SVC Marine subsequently sent the final invoice for the supply delivery and referred to the signed delivery report in its close-out correspondence. The customer's follow-up thanked the team for the delivery.

For a mixed ship-store order, keep specification questions against the relevant requisition lines and record the agreed delivery separately. That gives the purchasing team and the receiving crew a clear basis for checking the order and its paperwork.

What to send with a hose enquiry

Photograph the existing hose and both end connections, including any readable marking. Send the requested quantity and length, the intended service, the required pressure specification and the connection details already known to the vessel.

If an equivalent is acceptable, state that in the requisition and agree the proposed item before supply. Keep a hose assembly, a loose fitting and an adaptor as separate items when they are requested separately.

  • Item description, requested quantity and purchasing unit
  • Hose length, intended service and required pressure specification
  • Photographs of both end connections and readable markings
  • Available thread, connection and equipment details
  • Port or anchorage, ETA, delivery window and receiving contact
