Ship pipe repair in Hon Gai, Vietnam
Published
SVC Marine fabricates replacement pipe spools and repairs appointed ship pipework at Hon Gai. Our team defines the damaged section, material and connections, fits the agreed replacement onboard and records the inspection or testing completed.
01
A leaking line needs a defined repair scope
We start with the leaking, corroded or damaged line, establish the replacement dimensions and connections, then quote fabrication, access, fitting and the agreed inspection or testing. Send the fault photographs and vessel window to our repair team so the first review addresses the section that needs attention.
A leak at a flange, a corroded straight length and a damaged bend can require different work. Identify the line service and mark the fault on a photograph or drawing. Tell us whether leakage occurs continuously or during a particular operation, and whether the vessel has already isolated the line. Our team uses this information to distinguish a connection repair from replacement of a spool, valve or adjoining pipe section.
For a renewal, include the visible limits of the affected area and any known condition findings. A close-up of the hole alone does not establish where sound pipe begins. SVC agrees the section to remove and the replacement scope with the vessel before fabrication. Where inspection reveals additional damage, the revised work and materials need acceptance before we extend the renewal.
Separate urgent temporary attendance from permanent renewal in the enquiry. State what the vessel needs before departure and what can be completed during a later call. Any temporary measure needs its own agreed limits and follow-up; it should not be described in the completion record as a permanent replacement.

Define the spool before fabrication
The workshop and onboard team need the same dimensional reference. Send a dimensioned sketch or drawing showing the pipe ends, bends, branches and flange orientation. Mark the measurement points, the direction of flow where relevant and the spool's position onboard. Photographs of the complete run and both end connections help explain the drawing, especially where access is restricted.
If a standard, thickness or connection is unknown, mark it for checking. A photograph or nominal pipe size alone does not establish a matching flange or wall thickness. An existing spool may provide a useful dimensional reference, but its condition and any distortion must be considered before copying it. SVC confirms the agreed dimensions before cutting and assembly.
- Identify the fluid or line service and the specified material or grade.
- Give the nominal size, outside diameter and wall thickness or schedule where known; keep these descriptions separate.
- Record flange standard, size, pressure designation, facing and bolt-hole orientation where applicable.
- Show face-to-face dimensions, offsets, branches and the position of bends.
- Identify valves, reducers, gaskets, fasteners and fittings included in the replacement.
- Add existing drawings, material requirements and the inspection or testing requested by the vessel.
03
Fabricating and fitting the replacement
Our pipework team prepares the accepted spool to the agreed material, dimensions and connection details. The quotation identifies whether the job includes workshop fabrication only, removal of the old section, onboard fitting, valve work or adjacent repairs. This keeps a replacement spool and a complete line-renewal job distinct when the vessel compares offers.
Before fitting, we check the replacement against the agreed drawing and available installation references. The onboard stage needs room to remove the old section, bring the new spool into place and reach the joints. Tell us about restricted routes, lifting needs, insulation or surrounding equipment at the enquiry stage. These can determine the sequence of work within a short call.
For flanged connections, the agreed scope identifies the mating faces and the required gaskets and fasteners. For welded connections, it identifies the applicable material, joint preparation and welding requirements. Connection checks and acceptance follow the vessel's specified system and repair scope; a visual match is not a substitute for the correct specification.

Isolation, access and the vessel's work window
Confirm the actual berth or anchorage and expected movements. Hon Gai and Cai Lan form a named navigation-channel area, but a location name does not establish the boarding point or permission to carry out a particular repair. SVC plans attendance around the nominated receiving point, access arrangements and the vessel's available time. If the ship moves, send the revised position before dispatch.
Before removal or hot work, the vessel and attending team must establish the required isolation, draining, safe condition and applicable work permissions. Identify connected equipment and any operational restriction that affects the line. The job plan also needs the vessel contact responsible for releasing the work area and accepting the agreed checks. SVC carries out the contracted repair within those arrangements.
A short port stay may allow measurement and fabrication planning while a later window is needed for installation. Our quotation separates those stages where necessary. Give the latest completion time and the next port so the work plan reflects the voyage rather than an assumed unrestricted berth stay.
05
Inspection, testing and the repair handover
Agree the inspection and testing before work starts, including the required witness and record. The line service, specification and repair determine what is appropriate. Pressure, medium, duration and acceptance criteria must be defined for that job; there is no single test value for every ship pipe repair. Where class or another appointed party must witness or accept the work, include that requirement when requesting the quotation.
SVC records the sections renewed, materials and connections within its contracted scope, together with the checks actually performed. The handover should identify any outstanding item, temporary measure or deferred test. Materials documentation, dimensional records and inspection reports are included as agreed. The vessel can then distinguish completed fabrication and fitting from work that still requires checking or return to service.
06
Pipework and related repairs across northern ports
For subsequent calls, send the same marked worklist with the revised location. SVC also undertakes appointed machinery, electrical and pipe repairs at Cai Lan, Hai Phong and Lach Huyen. The linked guides describe related machinery, general repair and steel work; identify the actual pipe scope when asking for attendance. Our Vietnam ship-repair service quotes the nominated work and vessel window.

Questions before booking pipe renewal
Can SVC quote from photographs?
Photographs can begin the technical review. Add the line service, size, material and available drawing. If essential dimensions or connections remain unknown, we identify what must be measured before confirming fabrication.
Can an old spool be used as a pattern?
It can be a reference where its dimensions and condition are suitable. Confirm the required end positions and flange orientation against the installation, particularly if the old section is distorted or damaged.
Does a spool quotation include valves and testing?
Only the accepted scope determines those inclusions. List the valves, fittings, gaskets, removal, installation and checks required so each can be identified in the quotation and handover.
Can the work be completed during one Hon Gai call?
Send the available hours, access conditions, scope and drawings for review. Fabrication and onboard fitting may need separate stages; completion timing is confirmed against the actual job.
