The repair requirement

The composite boiler had leaking water tubes. SVC Marine arranged fabrication and supply of the tube plugs, followed by attendance onboard at Cam Pha to fit and weld them. The attendance included transport of the personnel, tools and materials and the local port-entry arrangements.

An initial scope followed by additional plugs

The initial work covered twelve boiler water-tube plugs. A further thirty-six plugs were added to the scope, bringing the recorded quantity to forty-eight. Keeping the additional quantity distinct made the actual repair scope clear as more leaking tubes were identified.

The work report records the plugs as fitted and welded, with no leakage, and states that the work was inspected and accepted onboard. That result relates to this attendance; the repair method for another boiler depends on its condition and the agreed technical scope.

Information that helped define the attendance

A useful boiler repair enquiry starts with the defect and access conditions. In this job, the correspondence requested tube dimensions, the number of leaking tubes and photographs of the boiler, tube area and working space. Those details let the team prepare the plugging materials before attendance.

Planning a similar boiler repair

Tell SVC Marine the boiler maker and model, the symptoms, the port or anchorage and the available working window. Include dimensions and close-up photographs of the affected tubes. State whether the boiler has been isolated, cooled, drained and depressurised, and whether class or superintendent attendance is required.

  • Boiler maker, model and relevant tube dimensions
  • Leak location, number of affected tubes and access photographs
  • Port or anchorage, ETA and available repair window
  • Isolation condition, hot-work arrangements and inspection requirements
