Vietnam to China shipping: freight and vessel chartering

Published

SVC Marine selects tonnage and negotiates freight for cargo moving from Vietnam to China. Our port captains, lashing crews and technical teams carry out the commissioned vessel-side work in Vietnam.

01

Start with the cargo, both terminals and the shipping window

A bagged cargo parcel, a steel shipment and a machine too large for a container need different freight enquiries. SVC checks cargo quantity, packing, dimensions and readiness, then compares vessel or container options against the loading and discharge operation.

Send the cargo list, photographs, loading terminal in Vietnam, nominated discharge terminal in China and readiness date to our shipping team by email. Include unit weights and dimensions for equipment, the total volume for breakbulk cargo and the required shipping window. These particulars let us discuss workable tonnage and freight terms from the first enquiry.

02

Container, part cargo or a dedicated voyage?

SVC compares FCL, consolidated cargo, breakbulk, bulk, part cargo and voyage charter options. The decision turns on parcel size, packing, cargo space, vessel gear and access at both ends. A container booking and a chartered general cargo vessel have different cost and working responsibilities.

For larger parcels, we examine general cargo vessels, mini bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels and bulk carriers against the actual stem. Part cargo is assessed against the vessel itinerary and available space; a dedicated voyage is assessed against quantity, laycan and loading and discharge terms. See vessel chartering in Vietnam and breakbulk shipping.

03

Negotiate freight and the work behind the rate

SVC negotiates the appointed freight and charter terms with shipowners and operators. We compare the freight indication with cargo capacity, gear, hatch access, draft and the proposed shipping window. The quoted route must fit the nominated terminals, not just the two country names.

The commercial discussion sets out loading and discharge rates, laytime, demurrage and despatch, crane responsibility, stevedoring, tally, survey, dunnage and securing. We identify which charges are included and which are separately priced before the booking or fixture is confirmed.

04

Loading ports in Vietnam and receiving terminals in China

Provide the exact berth, terminal or anchorage in Vietnam and the nominated receiving terminal in China. SVC checks the proposed tonnage and operation against draft, access, gear and the cargo readiness window. The consignee should identify the discharge equipment, handling requirements and receiving arrangements.

Vietnam loading enquiries include Hai Phong, Hon Gai, Nghi Son, Vung Ang, Son Duong, Dung Quat, Da Nang, the Ho Chi Minh City area and Thi Vai - Cai Mep. Our Vung Ang shipping page and Dung Quat shipping page describe industrial cargo and vessel-side requirements in more detail.

Chinese destinations discussed in route enquiries include Fangchenggang, Guangzhou and Huangpu, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao and Tianjin. Identify the receiving terminal and cargo destination within the port area so the vessel and discharge method can be checked against the actual location.

05

Fertilizer, jumbo bags and bulk cargo

For fertilizer and bagged cargo, SVC compares quantity, packing, bag weights, lifting method and vessel space. Hold cleanliness, hatch condition and rain exposure affect the loading plan and cargo care. Bulk and jumbo bag parcels are assessed against their own handling requirements.

Our port captain attends the appointed loading operation, checks cargo condition and records the agreed tally, stoppages and weather interruptions. State the survey, sampling and bag-handling requirements with the enquiry. See fertilizer shipping from Vietnam.

06

Rice shipping and cargo records

SVC examines bag quantities, packing, cargo readiness, proposed space and loading conditions for rice and agricultural cargo enquiries. Clean, dry cargo space and protection from moisture belong in the vessel and handling discussion.

The shipper and consignee should state the documents and cargo-treatment requirements for the actual shipment. SVC checks the supplied cargo descriptions, weights and packing against the shipping instructions and bill of lading draft within the appointed scope. See rice shipping from Vietnam.

07

Steel, machinery and project cargo: lifting and securing

SVC examines the dimensions, individual weights, lifting points, centre of gravity and intended stowage for steel and equipment cargo. Ship crane, shore crane and floating crane requirements are matched to the largest lift and the working location.

Our lashing crews carry out the agreed dunnage, chocking, lashing and securing work. Our welders perform the commissioned welded securing scope where required. The master or Surveyor requirements are identified against the cargo and vessel arrangement. Read heavy equipment shipping and cargo lashing and securing for the lifting and work particulars.

08

Vessel-side attendance, crane operations and repairs

Our port captain boards the vessel for the appointed loading scope, checks the working sequence and records cargo condition, progress and interruptions. Our teams perform the commissioned securing and technical work, with photographs and attendance records for the shipment file.

Where a floating crane or barge transfer is required, SVC plans the commissioned operation against lift weights, location, availability, permissions and working conditions. If vessel cargo gear develops a fault, our technicians examine it and carry out the agreed repair. Freight, crane work and technical attendance are identified as distinct scopes in the quotation. See floating crane operations in Vietnam.

09

Cargo records and the bill of lading draft

SVC checks quantities, descriptions, weights, marks and packing across the supplied cargo records and shipping instructions. We raise discrepancies for correction before the final document version. The shipper and consignee identify the shipment-specific export, import and receiving requirements.

Include the commercial invoice and packing list, the proposed shipping instructions and the bill of lading draft when available. Identify any requested certificate of origin, product specification, MSDS, quality or weight record, survey report, phytosanitary or fumigation document. The required set follows the actual cargo and receiving arrangement.

Questions about shipping from Vietnam to China

Can SVC quote a part cargo parcel or voyage charter to China?

Yes. Send cargo quantity, volume, packing, both terminals and the readiness window. SVC compares part cargo space and dedicated tonnage, examines vessel suitability and negotiates the appointed freight and charter terms.

What is needed for a Vietnam-China freight quotation?

Provide the cargo list, quantity, packing, readiness date, exact loading and discharge terminals and required shipping window. Equipment enquiries also need unit weights, dimensions, photographs and lifting particulars. State the loading and discharge terms and any crane or securing work.

Does SVC perform loading attendance and lashing in Vietnam?

Our port captains attend the commissioned vessel-side operation, and our lashing crews carry out the agreed securing work. Our welders and technicians perform the appointed welded securing or repair scope. Access, materials and the working window are defined against the actual vessel and cargo.

Can bagged cargo, steel and equipment use the same shipping method?

The method depends on the parcel. SVC compares cargo space, packing, handling, lifting and securing requirements with available container or vessel options. Bagged cargo, steel structures and oversized machines each need their own worklist and freight comparison.
