Can SVC Marine Supply Marine Lubricants to Vessels in Vietnam?

Yes. SVC Marine supplies selected marine lubricants and machinery oils to commercial vessels calling Vietnamese ports, anchorages, shipyards and drydocks.

The supply covers two-stroke cylinder and system oils, four-stroke trunk piston engine oils, multigrade marine diesel engine oils, hydraulic oils, industrial gear oils, compressor oils, turbine oils, greases, system flushing oils, rust-preventive products and coolant.

For technical matching, send the lubricant currently onboard, viscosity or grade, machinery maker and model, required quantity and whether the requirement is for top-up, complete oil replacement or post-overhaul refill.

SVC Marine combines lubricant supply with real vessel-side repair, drydock and technical execution experience — we understand where the oil will be used, when it must arrive and what happens when the wrong product is delivered.

Already Using Another Brand Onboard?

Most vessels arriving in Vietnam are already running an international lubricant brand. The practical question is not which brand is better — it is whether a locally available product meets the same machinery requirement at a workable delivery date and price.

Send the Current Product

Send the Machinery

We Review the Documentation

Available product documentation is compared against the machinery requirement — viscosity, base number, performance level, application and stated compatibility limits.

You Receive a Written Option

  • Proposed product and grade
  • Packaging and quantity
  • TDS on request
  • Delivery route and timing

What This Covers in Practice

Product matching is routinely handled for the international marine engine oil, hydraulic, industrial gear and compressor oil grades most commonly found onboard vessels trading to Vietnam.

Matching is done against the requirement, not against a brand name. Where no suitable product exists in the local range, we say so rather than proposing a substitute that does not fit.

Where a Match Is Not Offered

  • The machinery requires a specification not covered by the available range
  • The maker requires a specific named approval
  • The existing oil chemistry is not suitable for mixing and a full change-out is not planned
  • Available documentation is insufficient to support the comparison

A proposed alternative remains subject to the vessel manager’s or responsible technical party’s acceptance and any applicable equipment-maker requirements. SVC Marine does not perform laboratory oil analysis and does not certify equivalence.

Comparisons are made privately against the actual requisition. No brand-to-brand equivalence table is published on this page.

  • Post-overhaul refill

The most complex and most valuable supply window — covered in detail below.

  • Requisition
  • Stock check
  • Port / agent check
  • Launch / delivery arrangement
  • Vessel receipt

Delivery is not promised to every anchorage or port. Feasibility is confirmed per vessel against location, access, local procedures and schedule before the quotation is issued.

Marine Lubricant Supply During Drydock in Vietnam

Drydock frequently creates lubricant requirements that are more complex than a normal vessel port call. The requisition may cover several machinery systems at once, each tied to a different stage of the repair schedule.

Typical Drydock Lubricant Triggers

  • Main engine maintenance
  • Auxiliary-engine work
  • Hydraulic-system repair
  • Crane repair
  • Windlass / mooring machinery service
  • Gearbox overhaul
  • Pump or compressor service
  • Oil flushing
  • Tank cleaning
  • Pipe work
  • Machinery replacement
  • Leakage repair
  • Post-maintenance refill
  • Planned lubricant replacement
  • Deck machinery re-greasing

Pre-Dock Planning

SVC Marine can receive the lubricant requisition before docking and prepare the supply around the repair schedule rather than reacting to it.

Lubricants should be planned together with the repair worklist. Waiting until machinery is already dismantled or the system is ready for refill can create unnecessary drydock delay.

Drydock Supervision in Vietnam

  • Pre-dock requisition
  • Product / grade review
  • Quantity confirmation
  • Flushing oil if required
  • Stock & delivery plan
  • Yard / vessel delivery
  • Repair / change-out window
  • Final receipt

Do Not Select Marine Lubricant by Viscosity Alone

Two oils may show the same viscosity grade and still behave very differently in the same machinery. For marine engine oils, base number matters as much as viscosity.

Where Two Same-Grade Oils Can Differ

  • Base oil
  • Additive package
  • Detergency
  • Base number
  • Anti-wear chemistry
  • Oxidation resistance
  • Demulsibility
  • Compatibility
  • Equipment approval
  • Application

Reviewed Before Any Alternative Is Proposed

  • Current product
  • Oil remaining in system
  • Machinery maker
  • Machinery model
  • OEM requirement
  • ISO viscosity
  • SAE viscosity
  • Base number
  • Fuel sulphur regime
  • Application
  • TDS
  • Change-out method

ISO VG 68 does not automatically mean every ISO 68 lubricant can be mixed or substituted. No equivalence is claimed on the basis of viscosity alone.

SAE and base number values shown reflect the product designation in the current catalog. Before ordering, the applicable SAE grade, base number and performance level must be confirmed against the product technical data sheet and the machinery requirement.

Catalog products and packaging are subject to current stock, specification and delivery-location confirmation. Where a requested product is unavailable, SVC Marine may review a technically suitable alternative based on available documentation and the vessel’s requirements.

Compatibility limits stated in the TDS

  • Not suitable for systems with silver or silver-plated components
  • Compatible with most mineral hydraulic oils
  • Do not mix with biodegradable hydraulic fluids
  • Do not mix with fire-resistant hydraulic fluids
  • Compatible with common seals, gaskets and paints used for mineral oils

Where the TDS directs elsewhere

For high-precision hydraulic applications operating across a wide ambient temperature range, the TDS recommends a high-VI grade instead — see SP Hylis HV in the catalog above.

Storage and transport

  • Store below 45°C, out of direct sunlight
  • Not classified as dangerous goods under ADR, IMDG or IATA

These figures apply to this product only and are not extrapolated to any other item in the catalog. Transport classification and product selection must follow the actual TDS and SDS for the product being ordered.

TDS & SDS for Vessel Purchasing and Technical Review

Documents Available on Request

  • Technical Data Sheet
  • Safety Data Sheet
  • Product specification
  • Packaging information

Original documents are issued directly to the purchasing or technical department for review, depending on the selected product and documentation availability.

Safety & Transport Classification

Each lubricant must be handled according to its individual SDS. General handling should consider spill prevention, drum handling, storage, PPE, contamination, environmental protection and used-oil controls.

Transport classification is product-specific and is not stated for the catalog as a whole. Where a dangerous-goods classification matters for a shipment, the individual SDS for that product governs and is provided with the quotation.

Flushing Before Refill

Refilling a contaminated system with clean oil wastes the new charge. Where a system has suffered contamination, leakage, water ingress or long service, flushing should be planned as part of the same work package.

When Flushing Is Normally Considered

  • Oil contamination
  • Water ingress
  • Component failure debris
  • Long service interval
  • Product change-over
  • Post-overhaul commissioning
  • Hydraulic system repair
  • Gearbox overhaul

Products in the Catalog

  • SP Fluso System — in-system flushing of closed circuits, dosed into the existing charge before draining
  • SP Fluso S1 / S7 — external cleaning of tanks, casings and machinery parts

Dosage, contact time and drain procedure follow the product technical data sheet and the machinery maker’s guidance.

Flushing procedure, dosage and disposal remain the responsibility of the vessel’s technical team and the responsible service provider. Used oil and flushing residue must be handled under the applicable waste-reception requirements.

Oil Supply After Crane or Hydraulic System Repair

Typical Cases

  • Hose failure
  • Hydraulic leak
  • Cylinder repair
  • Pump replacement
  • Valve repair
  • System flushing
  • Oil contamination
  • Crane service
  • Deck machinery repair

Why It Connects to Repair Work

A hydraulic repair is not finished when the component is replaced. The system still needs the correct oil, in the correct quantity, at the moment the system is ready to be refilled.
